Oy to the World

We found a world of darkness and light,
And into the dark we fled.
The chemists charged a handsome price
To change our gold to lead.

A nation in its infancy
Might take a misstep or two.
The spoils of victory taste like defeat.
We know what warriors do.

I’ll take a cup of kindness yet:
The vessel fills again.
The curse of being too big for my cage
Is the only trap I’m in.

Joy to our billions of friends in the world,
Joy to our neighbors in space.
Cards from the future say “Hey, we won,
Hey, it’s OK to embrace.”
